NGO representatives and inhabitants of Diyarbakir gathered and marched from the city's Dagkapi gate to the Galleria Centre on Thursday in protest of the recent deadly blast that killed 7 and wounded 68. Carrying a huge banner reading "We remember, we condemn, we don't want it to happen again," the crowd walked in silence.
Stopping at the site of the bomb explosion of 3 January, Sezgin Tanrikulu, president of the Diyarbakir Bar Association made a statement in the name of all the participants.
He said that the attack would not be forgotten, and that the protesters did not want any such attacks to happen again. Tanrikulu reiterated the condemnation of the attack.
The crowd left red carnations at the bomb site and then dispersed quietly.
The march was joined by representatives from the Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Bar Association, business associations, the Chambers of Doctors, Chemists, Dentists, Veterinarians, Chartered Accountants, Traders and Craftsmen, among others. There were also many representatives of trade unions, many of whom have collected as the "Democracy Platform."
The bomb explosion took place at around 5.30 pm on 3 January. Seven people died, five of them pupils who attended nearby cram schools. 67 people were wounded in the attack. (NZ/TK/AG)
