Hidayet Tiryaki, the central district administrator of the Batman Branch of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), and Sinem İren from the Peace Mothers Initiative were arrested for their speeches at the pres release on May 11 in front of the Batman Human Rights Monument.
They were detained during the press release and arrested by the court to which they were taken. The DTP deputies Ayla Akat and Bengi Yıldız were at the press release as well.
According to the report of the Batman Çağdaş newspaper, Tiryaki and İrem were sent to Batman M Type prison for “suggesting and encouraging the sort of activity that would alienate people from military service and making the propaganda of the organization.”Tiryaki had made the following speech before the DTP crowd on Mother’s day:
“As those who reproduce life, we say enough to these negative conditions that result in destruction of life. Although the women did not make the decision to start this war, we are the ones getting hurt the most. As the mothers who await the death news of their children, we address from our hearts all the mothers and the women of this country, the democratic circles, everyone with a conscience, “Take action immediately to end this war.” (EÖ/GG/TB)
