Bianet's Ayca Orer is rewarded one of the "journalist of year" awards by the Contemporary Journalists' Association (CGD).
The jury deems worthy Orer's article, which criticized mainstream media's coverage of security forces' operation into prison facilities which left 32 people dead in 2000.
Titled "Media Accomplices the Operation", Orer interrogates four journalists who covered the operation back then.
All expressed that media made a one-sided, unbalanced coverage and approached the incident from the official point of view of the state.
ÇGD awards went to 42 journalists working in different domains.
The association also honored Cuban leader Fidel Castro for "his constant and determined struggle for independence against imperialism and colonialism". (EÜ)
